MOTION NO. 3
MOTION: Councillor J. Graham
This Committee agrees that the Council should organise a mini soccer league in Balgaddy as part of the ongoing attempts to provide young people with positive pro-community activities as part of an overall plan to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.
REPORT:
The Council have undertaken a number of initiatives specifically targeting residents of the Balgaddy area in addition to initiatives for the young people of the area. The most recent examples for young people include:
- Drop in programmes on the MUGA
- 'Show Racism The Red Card' programme which is scheduled to be rolled out during the October mid term school break
The Council's Development Officer continues to meet with residents from the Balgaddy area to examine what additional assistance he can give to the area and as always the Council will endeavour to increase its support from within the available resources.
As Members are aware young people from the area will also have the opportunity to participate in our Late Night League programme, based in either Weston Hockey Club or Collinstown Sports Complex, during the month of November on Friday & Saturday evenings respectively. The Council will also continue in conjunction with the F.A.I. Development Officers to provide additional assistance to the local community.
