QUESTION NO.4

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the CEO if he has examined claims that 100 people are sleeping rough in and around Tallaght Village including on the site of the old Gallaghers factory and will he also confirm if any action is open to him in respect of this homeless issue?"

REPLY:

The Homeless Services Unit was aware of approximately 7 persons sleeping rough on the site of the old Gallagher's Factory.  There is major difficulty accessing this site which poses health and safety concerns for outreach personnel to establish links on site.

It should be noted that 5 of the aforementioned 7 people are linking in with SDCC Outreach Worker through the CARP clinics operating on Friday mornings.  To date, 3 have been placed into our support temporary accommodation; 1 was placed into private emergency accommodation (PEA) and 1 other is awaiting placement into an STA (once a vacancy arises).  Our Outreach Worker in conjunction with Glen Abbey Outreach Service is endeavouring to link in with the remaining 2 possible rough sleepers through the CARP Clinic to source suitable supported temporary accommodation.

The Dublin Region Homeless Executive recently awarded the tender for Housing First and the Regional Outreach and Contact Service (RCOS) to a joint bid from Focus Ireland and Peter McVerry Trust.  Any sightings of rough sleeping should be reported directly to SDCC Homeless Services Unit who will follow-up though both our own Outreach Worker and the RCOS.
