QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"To ask the Chief Executive to design a traffic calming scheme for the sections either side of the Merry Ploughboy Pub where the bends on the road are seriously acute?"

REPLY:

Edmondstown Road is classified as a Distributor Road and as such facilitates the distribution of traffic to the adjoining estates. Such routes are also used by the emergency vehicles (Ambulance, Fire Brigade, Gardai etc). It is not the Council's policy to provide traffic calming measures such as ramps on these routes.

The road has a maximum speed limit of 50kph (with repeater signs), a continuous white line down the middle, numerous warning signs and "slow" markings used to supplement warning signs. The Council is currently purchasing a number of speed indicator devices and this location will be considered for one of these devices.
