QUESTION NO. 3
QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin
To ask the Chief Executive to provide a report on the number of voids in the Clondalkin LEA as of October 1st 2014 including the number of voids, the length of time each property has been void, the estimated length of time each unit will remain void, the number of units void current void that have been allocated and any additional details which the Manager may feel are relevant to this issue.
REPLY:
On the 1st October 2014, there were 19 units vacant in the "North of the Naas Road" area. 9 of these were in the Clondalkin Area. Three are ready for allocation and 6 have re-let works to start as yet. Two of these 6 houses require major works to be undertaken to them. Viz. One was an old shop which is to be converted into a house for a large family and the other is awaiting plans to cater for an extension for a person with special needs.
Tenants have been sourced for 7 of the 9 houses.
The longest vacancy is just over 6 months and this is the old shop. The reason for the delay in refurbishing this unit is due to its complexity and cost. The unit was used in the past as a shop and more recently as a depot during the refurbishment of the surrounding area. Designs for the redevelopment of this unit are nearing completion and discussions are on-going with the Department with a view to obtaining funding for the large scale works needed
The current average turnaround for a casual vacancy countywide is 11.28 weeks.
