QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the Play Spaces and Play Areas for the Lucan Palmerston LA and to include how many and where these have been (a) agreed (b) installed (c) in progress and a time scale for the completion of the 2014 programme?"

REPLY:

The Five Year Play Space Programme 2014 – 2018 was approved by the Council in 2013. Two Play Spaces were included for construction in 2014 in the Lucan Electoral Area: one at Woodfarm Acres in Palmerston and one at Griffeen Valley Park at Griffeen Avenue.

The roll out of the programme included for consultation with community leaders about a suitable site and this would then be followed up with a public meeting with the residents and to which the Elected Members were invited, for agreement.

No agreement was reached on the site at Woodfarm Acres and an alternative site was proposed by the residents in Riversdale Estate. Agreement was reached on the location and design of this play space.

Construction is due to commence in October on the play space at Riversdale.

In relation to the site at Hermitage Park and which is separately funded through the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and with matched funding from the Council:  Tenders have been received and agreement reached on the design.  This project will commence at the end of October 2014.

It is proposed to present an update on the programme (and particularly for the newly elected Members) including the consultation plans for 2015 to the October Area Committee Meeting.
