QUESTION: Councillor R. Nolan

"To ask the Chief Executive would the Council put some park benches in Griffeen Park in Lucan as requested by the elderly residents?"

REPLY:

A number of benches were provided in Griffeen Valley Park in the vicinity of the River Griffeen and playground. While the benches survived for a number of years one suffered from persistent vandalism resulting in the destruction of the bench and footpath around it. This bench was eventually removed. Two further benches are currently being monitored in relation to fire damage to the footpath which is generally caused by the burning of wheel bins.

Notwithstanding the above, a new bench will be installed in the park on a trial basis. The bench will be positioned in a prominent location to ensure that it is highly visible to deter loitering and anti social behaviour.
