QUESTION NO. 18

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask for a detailed report on the efforts to date; and works likely required, to secure the full restoration of the old Guinness Silver Bridge in Palmerston; including details of any costings conducted on the work required; and on the opportunities that may be available to secure funding for these works?"

REPLY:

The Liffey Bridge (Metal Bridge over River Liffey) is a Protected Structure RPS Ref. 006 (South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2010-2016, Schedule 2).  The structure is in the ownership of Fingal County Council and is included as a Protected Structure on their RPS.  Further to discussion in respect of possible repair and conservation works to the structure, Fingal County Council engaged a Conservation Engineer to provide a work programme for the necessary conservation and repair works to the bridge.  A full survey of the bridge and a report detailing the essential repairs and works required to allow the re-use of the bridge was provided.  The report was funded under Fingal County Council’s three year capital programme. The cost of the works involved for the conservation and repair of the bridge were not provided in the conservation and structural reports.
