QUESTION NO.28
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the CEO to outline actions being taken by the Council to deal with the growing problem of "Cars for Sale" signs which are now creating much concern in the County?
REPLY:
It is well documented that the Council is having particular difficulty with these signs, as are our sister authorities.
As signs are removed, they are being re-erected as quickly and it is strongly believed there a number of different networks of offenders involved.
Issuing fines are proving problematic. Even is cases where the registration number from a vehicle is available, the fines which are delivered by registered post are being returned “gone away” and so the cases cannot proceed.
The Council continues in its efforts to address this problem and there are currently three Direct Prosecution cases being pursued.
