QUESTION: Councillor M. Genockey

To ask the Chief Executive if the recent increase in rents has had an impact on the council’s negotiations with landlords to take part in the RAS scheme and if there has been any effect on the number of landlords willing to take part in the scheme?

REPLY:

Lease rents payable to landlords under the Rental Accommodation Scheme are negotiated and agreed in reference to prevailing market rents for similar type properties in the same location with a discount applied for the absence of voids and regular monthly payments paid direct to the landlord.

The general increase in market rents is not a factor which effect landlords willingness to both enter and continue lease arrangements under the RAS scheme as can be demonstrated by the table below-
