MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns
Cathaoirleach's Business
"That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to arrange to have the sides of the bridge on the climbing frame in Tymon Park covered in as it presents a danger to young children."
REPORT:
An Annual safety inspection of all the playgrounds in South Dublin was recently completed by external independent playground inspectors. The playground Tymon Park including the Multiplay unit which has a rigid bridge feature was inspected on the 22/7/14 last. Whilst a number of minor safety issues were identified with the unit, no issue was raised with the general safety of the bridge feature and the absence of protective sides. This unit is considered safe for use by children in the 4-12 years age range with parental supervision.
The Council would be reluctant to make any on site modifications to this multiplay unit which might compromise it's existing manufacturer's safety certification. However, the issue regarding the unprotected sides will be taken up with the supplier of the unit, to see if it is possible for any safety modifications to be made by the manufacturer to improve the safety of the unit.
