MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor Sarah Holland

"That the Chief Executive report on the fact that Whitechurch FC were allocated a junior pitch adjacent to the existing senior pitch beside the community centre by SDCC.  This has never materialised.  I submit that we vote on having the resources allocated to have the pitch set up. The club are currently using the school pitches which they have to maintain themselves and this is not a permanent arrangement, rather a goodwill one which can be removed at any time."  

REPORT:

As part of the construction of infill housing adjacent to the existing pitch at Whitchurch, the following was agreed; 

• The funds in respect of Whitechurch Phase 3, for community facilities, were to be transferred to provide a purpose built community centre.
• Retention of the present Resource Centre at 29 Whitechurch Way which was confirmed.
• Provision of car parking at Resource Centre – which is now in place.
• Redevelopment of junior pitch.
• Retention of an open space in front of the church.
• Upgrading of existing senior football pitch.
• Implementation of traffic calming measures which includes ramps – which are now in place.
• A decrease in the number of dwellings originally proposed from 40 to 29, which includes a number of one and two storey dwellings to meet specific concerns raised during consultation.

Considerable works are required to bring the area of open space in question up to a suitable standard to construct a junior pitch.  The provision of funding and resources to construct the pitch will be explored with the Housing Department through the Council's 3 Year Capital Programme which will form part of the Council's Annual Budget process.
