QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner
To ask the Chief Executive to explain the charges at Saggart Cemetery. Are there graves currently available there and what is the cost? Also, is there a charge for permission to erect a headstone? If so why, and where does the money raised go.
REPLY:
The fees in relation to Saggart Cemetary and all other SDCC burial grounds are set out in the table below:
Purchase of Burial Right in Grave Space - Single Plot | €2,400 |
Purchase of Burial Right in Grave Space - Double Plot | €4,800 |
Purchase of Cremation Plot | €1,000 |
Purchase of "Little Angels" Plot | €100 |
First Opening Fee (only applicable for Advance Purchases of Burial Right in Grave Space) | €460 |
Re-Openings for Additional Burials | €460 |
Re-Openings for Burial of Ashes | €335 |
Burial of Organs | €340 |

Testing of Plots | €195 |
Weekend/Bank Holiday Interment Fee | €185 |
Search/Tracking Fee | €40 |
Grave spaces are available in Saggart which may only be pre-purchased by local Saggart residents.
There is a separate charge in relation to a headstone permit. Often families purchase two plots (double plot) but only wish to erect one single headstone, in which case only one headstone permit application and fee is required.
The headstone permit application fee relates to the administration cost of processing the permit application, the assessment of the suitability of the proposed headstone in terms of height, material, stability, and inscription, and an actual inspection of the erection of the headstone to ensure that it is being carried out in a safe manner and according to the application details as submitted.
