QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

To ask the Chief Executive if the speaker and camera facilities located on the canal walk and behind Kilcronin are fully utilised?

REPLY:

Yes the speakers & cctv along the entire Grand Canal Green Route & in the vicinity of Kilcronin are used.

When anti-social behaviour is observed by the CCTV controller, the PA system is used. If this does not

deter the behaviour, the Gardai are informed of the situation. If the Gardai have the resources available

they respond to the event.

Sometimes using the PA system can provoke more serious anti-social behaviour including criminal

damage of the PA system and the individual CCTV cameras. In general the groups involved in antisocial

behaviour just ignore the PA system.

In some circumstances it is deemed to be more risky to use the PA system and the Gardai are called

immediately.
