QUESTION NO. 27

QUESTION: Councillor Martina Genockey

"To ask the Chief Executive to provide a report on the new premises for Golden Cobra Boxing Club in Jobstown. When is the work expected to start, how long is it due to take and will the club, which has provided invaluable service to the community for over 20 years, be included in the preparation of plans for the new facility?"

REPLY:

An undertaking has been given to Golden Cobra Boxing Club to license the former Kiltalown Residential Shop / Post Office building to the club as a boxing facility. The building is in a poor condition with decayed extensions to front and side. These extensions will be removed by Council contractors in the coming weeks and the building stabilised.

The Architects Department have produced design drawings in conjunction with the club for a small extension to include WC / shower facilities. The cost of the stabilisation/waterproofing and extension works will be borne by the Council. Golden Cobra will be supported by Architects Department in their bid for funding from the Irish Amateur Boxing Association. The grant money will be required to fit out the building with both mechanical and electrical services, finishes and planting to make it fit for use.

The securing of the building / construction of the extension should be completed by mid-October. The fit-out and finishing completions will depend on grant allocation as described above. Every effort will be made to bring the premises into early use as a boxing club.
