MOTION NO. 12

MOTION: Councillor A-M. Dermody

"That the Chief Executive present to this meeting the viability or otherwise of working with Irish Water specifically when repairing footpaths following meter installations and where those same paths are already in poor condition. A collaborative approach ought to be taken between the Council and Irish Water where footpaths are agreed to be in a poor state of repair, and that Irish Water would make a payment gesture to the Council for it to repair the entire of the footpath and not just the patch worked on by Irish Water. There are obvious savings to be made in organising repair work in this way."

REPORT:

Irish Water currently have a nationwide meter installation project underway. Contractors have been appointed to carry out the works on their behalf. The reinstatements being carried out by the contractors are in accordance with their contracts with Irish Water and do not provide for the carrying out of additional repair works. Any such additional works would effect the overall programme of the metering project and have cost implications for the Council.
