QUESTION: Councillor Charlie O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive if any action is opened to him under the derelict sites act in respect of the unfinished apartments block on Cookstown Road behind Fortunestown Shopping Centre?"

REPLY:

This site is currently in private ownership. However the Council is currently working with an Approved Housing Body to achieve completion and occupancy of the 45  residential apartment development at as early date as possible. At this point in time the Approved Housing Body is at an advanced stage of acquiring the development and it is expected that formal contract will be completed shortly which will allow for commencement of on site works in Q4 2014. The development is scheduled for completion over a 12 month period.

Upon completion,  the 45 residential apartments will be made available for social use in respect of nominations from the Council housing waiting list under a lease Payment & Availability arrangement between the Council and the Approved Housing Body for which approval from the Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government is in place.

The site will continue to be monitored and if deemed appropriate, an inspection under the Derelict Sites Act 1990 can be arranged and subject to inspectors report the necessary enforcement action put in place.
