Closing Date & Time of Council & OPF meetings

REPLY:

The following item was considered by the Members at the June OP&F meeting:

A verbal report on the subject of the closing date and time for submission of Members Items for monthly Council meetings and for meetings of the Organisation, Procedure and Finance Committee was presented by Mr. W. Sheils, Senior Executive Officer, and was CONSIDERED.

In his report Mr. Sheils outlined the current arrangements in regard to closing dates and times for Members to submit items (questions / motions) for inclusion on Council and OPF meeting agendas and informed Members that, with the increase from 26 to 40 elected members, pressure of time has increased for those staff who deal with items submitted.

A discussion followed with contributions from Councillors C. King and T. Gilligan. Councillor King suggested that the closing date for submission of Members items be pushed back 24 hours. 

The verbal report was NOTED and it was AGREED to amend the closing date for submission of Questions & Motions by the Members to the monthly Council agendas and also to the Organisation, Procedure and Finance Committee agendas by 24 hours, ie to ten (10) working days before meetings.

This report is now before the Members for NOTING.
