QUESTION NO.39
QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
To ask the Chief Executive for a report on the operation of the recently approved Policy on the restriction of Heavy Goods Vehicles across the County and the number of summonses/fines that have been issues, per electoral area?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council reviewed all road vehicle weight restrictions within the county in 2013 following the amendment to the relevant traffic regulations. The revue of the restrictions was consistent with the Council’s policy on the Mobility of HGV Traffic. This policy includes a process for considering the appropriate restriction that can be applied to a road.
The revised restrictions were forwarded to the An Garda Síochána Commissioner and statuary consent was received on 16th December 2013. Copies of the schedule of weight restrictions and associated mapping have been forwarded to the Dublin Metropolitan Region Traffic Core and local Garda stations for their enforcement.
The operation and enforcement of the restrictions is undertaken by An Garda Síochána and the Council have no role in this regard. The Garda authorities have been requested to provide any available statistics in this regard. On receipt of information a report will be issued to the members.
