QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

To ask the Chief Executive how many applicants have been housed by this Council so far in 2014, broken down by category (emergency accommodation, RAS, CBL, etc); to state how the Council plans to cope with the additional numbers requiring Council support in the months ahead; and to make a statement on the matter?

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council has allocated 291 social housing dwellings to housing applicants for the first six months of 2014.  The breakdown as follows:-

At present there are 8,029 applications on the Council’s housing waiting list with 185 registered Homeless, all future vacancies arising will be allocated in accordance with the Council’s Allocation Scheme.  The Council is prioritising those applicants in homeless situations and other priority cases e.g. medical.

57% of those on the housing waiting list are in receipt of rent supplement.  The HAP scheme will be introduced in the near future and will ensure that the long term housing of such applicants will be supported by the Council through direct payments to the landlord.
