QUESTION NO. 19

QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

 To ask the Chief Executive to report on progress made under the tendering process for the Play Spaces in the 2014 Play Space programme; to outline where new play areas will be built before the end of 2014; to outline what repairs/replacement of equipment in existing playgrounds is scheduled to be carried out before the end of the year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

REPLY:

The following locations were identified as the locations for the first phase of the five year play space programme.

Following public consultation, six of the locations were agreed and are currently out to tender. Closing dates for tenders for these playgrounds is the end July 2014. 

The six locations agreed and out to tender are:

• Riversdale Estate, Palmerston 
• Rathcoole Park, Rathcoole
• Knockmitten Park, Clondalkin
• Beechfield Park, Walkinstown
• Killinarden Park @ Community Centre, Tallaght
• Ballycragh Park

A further four locations are agreed and are due to go to tender shortly. These locations are

• Griffeen Avenue, Lucan,
• Avonbeg, Tallaght,
• Hermitage Park
• Tymon Park Phase 1

One location, Belgard Heights, Tallaght, is still in consultation and this is expected to be concluded in the near future. 

It has not been possible currently to reach agreement at the following proposed locations:

• Woodfarm Acres
• Woodstown, Knocklyon
• Whitechurch open space

A full update on the works progressed will be given to Council in Q3 of 2014.

In relation to repairs and replacement, this work is on going in response to damage and vandalism. Minor repairs are carried out by staff where possible. In the event that our own staff are unable to carry out the repair, specialist contractors are used.
