QUESTION NO.47

QUESTION: Councillor Liona O'Toole

To ask the Chief Executive to ensure that prior notice is given either via council or Irish Water if water source is being changed, particularly to harder water, to allow people the opportunity to take precautions to avoid any potential damage to appliances. Could council provide the chemical analysis of the water from the different sources currently available?

 REPLY:

The water supply to South Dublin County Council (SDCC) is predominantly (94%) from Ballymore Eustace with the balance from Leixlip.  Leixlip water is hard when compared to Ballymore Eustace water due to its higher mineral content. Leixlip water is blended with BME water at the Peamount Reservoir, before being distributed to the West Lucan Area.  In April a situation arose due to production difficulties at Roundwood which necessitated a temporary increase in South Dublin’s Water Supply from the Leixlip Water Treatment Plant. The hardness of the Leixlip water was lessened by blending it with the BME water.

Irish Water as the new national water utility is now responsible for managing the delivery of water services to homes and businesses in Ireland.

In accordance with protocols recently agreed between Irish Water and Local Authorities, the management of customer contact has transferred to Irish Water and the following are the contact details:

General Public Contact: Tel:  1890 278 278

Public Representatives: Dedicated Local Representative Help Desk : email localrepsupport@water.ie

All future water services queries should be conveyed directly to Irish Water at these contacts.

On this occasion the member’s sentiments have been conveyed to Irish Water.
