To ask the Chief Executive how many litter fines have been issued in the last year in comparison to the previous 12 months, how many have been paid and to break down the fines to electoral area?
REPLY:
While it is not possible to provide a breakdown of figures by electoral area, the following figures are for all litter fines issued in South Dublin County Council's administrative area.
In 2012 the Litter Warden Service issued a total of 1165 litter fines amounting to €174,750. A total of 414 litter fines were paid in full to the value of €62,100 and a further €3,725 was received in relation to part payment of litter fines issued. The overall amount collected in 2012 was €65,855, which represents a 37.6% collection rate.
In 2013, a total of 753 litter fines issued amounting to €112,950. A total of 296 litter fines were in full to the value of €44,400 and a further €3,545 was received in relation to part payment of litter fines issued. The overall amount collected in 2013 was €47,945, which represents a 42.4% collection rate.
