COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

MOTION NO.11
MOTION: Councillor C. King
"That this Committee calls on the Manager to carry out an assessment of those people tenanted by Sophia Housing in Russell Square to establish if all Sophia tenants continue to require this form of transitional Housing and the supports associated with it. If it is established that there are those not in need of these supports anymore, that they be re-housed in standard accommodation and those in need of additional supports housed within the Sophia homes".
REPORT:
Sophia housing provide a Semi Permanent on site housing support service for a small number of the homeless who may never be able to live independently. It differs from the Permanent on site support service in so far as there is a recognition that some of the households in this service may well move on to live independently following support from the service provider. In this regards I can report that 5 such households were moved from this facility into independent living accommodation over the past 2 years.
This service is now a Regional one and not all service users are nominated by this Council. The service level agreement in place for this service stipulates that the (referring) Local Authority will work collaboratively with the housing support team, key workers, case managers, and HSE staff in identifying the level and duration of supports required for persons assessed. It is also important that a person's support requirements are adjusted as needs change.
Service users that have been referred by this Council are monitored and reviewed in conjunction with Sophia Housing on a continuous basis
