QUESTION NO.3
QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine
"To ask the Manager can he provide an update on the Newlands Cross upgrade?"
REPLY:
Works are progressing well on the Newlands Cross Upgrade Scheme. Traffic was switched on to the temporary lanes in January and February last and is flowing well throughout the scheme with no additional delays. Construction of the new flyover commenced in February and the east side approach is clearly visible. Works along the northern end of the site are also progressing well and will be completed by end of May next which will then permit the implementation of the next temporary traffic phase. During this phase, the westbound traffic will remain in its current location but the eastbound traffic will be split such that it will flow on each side of the new approach embankments between Boot Road and the M50. This will permit the construction of the west side embankment. Temporary speed limits of 60Kkph remain in place throughout the site. The works are well on schedule to achieve completion by Spring of 2015 with completion of the flyover by the end of this year.
