SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
Tuesday, May 06, 2014
MOTION NO. 6
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
That this Council, whilst acknowledging the excellent services provided by the Customer Services Department believe that the term customer to describe residents and other persons who enquire of or use the Council's services and facilities is not the most appropriate, and requests the Manager to examine the concept behind and the role of the Citizens Service Division of Fingal County Council.
REPORT:
South Dublin County Council's Customer Service Action Plan and Citizens Charter (http://www.sdcc.ie/sites/default/files/publications/customer-service-action-plan-30th-april-2013.pdf) sets standards of excellence that our citizens and customers can expect in all interactions with the organisation. The inclusion of references to both citizen and customer in the policy is in recognition of the fact that not all our customers are citizens of SDCC, for example businesses, voluntary groups, national bodies and government departments. South Dublin County Council will review the Customer Service Action Plan and Citizens Charter as part of its preparation of the new Corporate Plan 2015 - 2018 to ensure that the organisation continues to deliver excellence in all its interactions with the public.
Contact was made with Fingal County Council in preparing this report to research the Citizens Service Division referred to in the motion, but further information was not available. The Councillor may wish to contact the Director of Corporate Performance and Change Management directly to discuss further.
