QUESTION NO. 5

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager for an update on the ongoing examination of the possible extension of the Village Cleaning Service to provide a weekend service, in particular in relation to litter bin-emptying, as previously requested?

REPLY:

The Environmental Services dept is anxious to resolve the current situation whereby no cleaning and litter bin services are provided in the County's town and village centres between Friday lunchtime and Monday morning on a normal weekend, or Tuesday morning on a bank holiday weekend.  The Council wishes to introduce a service at weekends in the villages in order to alleviate the litter problem which arises currently from the lack of weekend service.  The service must operate within the current budget provided for cleaning services within the public realm section and discussions aimed at achieving that agreement with operational staff will take place in the coming weeks.
