MOTION NO.8

MOTION: Councillor J. Hannon

That a report be presented on the maintenance/cleansing of the area immediately outside the front entrance of Rua Red, and indicating why this is proving problematical.

REPORT:

Every effort is being made to secure the area around the entrance to Rua Red and the environs of Theatre, Library and Civic Offices from disgarded refuse, cans etc. The relevant Staff from the Civic Offices regularly clean up around the area including the planters along the public walkway. The area is on the cleaning roster for the Public Realm staff using the cleansing machine. The area is regularly treated with weed spray to prevent weeds and grass growing between the paving slabs.

While this  work is ongoing, the prevailing wind tends to draw any disgarded papers, cans etc. around the area of the public walkway between the civic buildings and Rua Red, also there is constant dumping of cans and refuse in the planters. This will be monitored and be attended to in accordance with the availability of staff.
