QUESTION NO. 14

QUESTION: Councillor C. Brophy

"To ask the Manager to outline how the Council is dealing with the anti-Social problems that are being experienced by residents living in the vicinity of Kimmage Manor and what solutions will be put in place to resolve these issues?"

REPLY:

Reports in relation to feuding and anti social behaviour at Kimmage Manor Way have been received from local residents including residents in Kimmage Manor Way itself  and elected members. These complaints range from the accumulation of rubbish at the entrance to the estate to barking dogs, keeping of horses and feuding neighbours.

The Council Estate Management section has undertaken an extensive investigation of the complaints and carried out a number of actions in conjunction with the Gardai, HSE and other departments of the Council.

·         All dumped rubbish and overflowing bins were removed by the Councils housing depot.

·         Complaints regarding horses on site were dealt with by our Estate Management team resulting in their removal and non return.

·         The Environmental Services Dept as recently as two weeks ago seized a horse on the Whitehall Road, near the group housing scheme.

·         Anti social behaviour is as a result of feuding in the scheme between 2 neighbours  resulting in allegation and counter allegation between both neighbours.

·         A CCTV camera was installed and focused entirely on the 5 houses in the estate

·         Council Housing Staff visit the group housing scheme on a regular basis.

As a result of the interagency approach and our actions to date 2 houses have been surrendered in the past few weeks and are now secured to prevent unauthorised access.   The most recent tenancy was surrendered last week and it is expected that it will have a positive impact on the remaining residents in the scheme and on the community as a whole.

The Housing Maintenance section are now arranging for relet repairs to be carried out on these houses prior to re-letting them.
