QUESTION NO. 15
QUESTION: Councillor C. Jones
"To ask the Manager to clearly outline the owners of the title to the lands at Adamstown where the School/Community Sports Hall is to be located and to give details of the Council's understanding of the contractual obligation between the Department of Education and Skills and the developer?"
REPLY:
The lands referred to are in the ownership of Castlethorn. We understand that there is a contractual arrangement between Castlethorn and the Department of Education and Skills regarding the delivery of a School Sports Hall. We are advised that Castlethorn have not had the means to deliver on this obligation. Notwithstanding this situation, it is now an objective the proposed amended Adamstown SDZ to facilitate the delivery of a sports hall to which the school will have access.
The Amended Planning Scheme provides for the provision of 1,200m² of community centre space that incorporates a community sports hall or alternatively the provision of 1 no. 600m² community centre together with an additional school sports hall in phase 2 which will be available for community use and an additional 600m² community facility to be provided in Phase 9.
The amended Scheme is currently subject to appeal to An Bord Pleanala. A decision is expected by late Summer 2014.
Notwithstanding the above, South Dublin County Council as the Development Agency for Adamstown continues to work with all parties, including the landowners, to facilitate the delivery of community facilities in the Adamstown area at the earliest opportunity.
