COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO. 18
QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
"To ask the Manager if, noting Motion No. 7 at the February LAC meeting, the Council has received any correspondence re the Sports Hall at Adamstown Community College from the Department of Education and Skills, the DDL LETB and Castlethorn, or if otherwise the Manager is aware on any recent progress towards the building of the Sports Hall?"
REPLY:
The Council has received no formal correspondence from the Department of Education and Skills, the DDL LETB or Castlethorn. We understand that there is a contractual arrangement between Castlethorn and the Department of Education and Skills regarding the delivery of a School Sports Hall. Castlethorn have not had the means to deliver on this obligation. It is now an objective the proposed amended Adamstown SDZ Planning Scheme to facilitate the delivery of a sports hall to which the school will have access.
The Amended Planning Scheme provides for the provision of 1,200m² of community centre space that incorporates a community sports hall or alternatively the provision of 1 no. 600m² community centre together with an additional school sports hall in phase 2 which will be available for community use and an additional 600m² community facility to be provided in Phase 9.
The Amended Planning Scheme is currently subject to Appeal to An Bord Pleanala. A decision is expected by late Summer 2014. The decision of An Bord Pleanala will assist in providing clarity in respect of what will be required and at what stage. Notwithstanding this, South Dublin County Council as the Development Agency for Adamstown continues to work with all parties, including the landowners, to facilitate the delivery of community facilities in the Adamstown area at the earliest opportunity.
