QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Manager to seek an urgent further update/response from the National Transport Authority to the appraisal of proposed walking/cycling project at the esker between Moy Glas & Castle Riada estates as per the previous Part 8 decision by the Elected Members?"

REPLY:

A meeting was held with representatives of the National Transport Authority (NTA) and South Dublin County Council Lucan Area Committee members on the 9th of July 2013, with regard to the Esker permeability project. At this meeting, it was agreed that South Dublin County Council would carry out an appraisal of the scheme in accordance with NTA Project Management Guidelines and submit this appraisal to the NTA. It was also agreed that the appraisal would include a number of different scenarios; including 'Existing Condition', 'The Scheme as initially proposed prior to the Part 8 process' and ' The Scheme as proposed after the Part 8 process'. The Planning Authority prepared the appraisal as agreed and submitted it to the NTA on the 31st of October 2013. At the end of last year, the Project did not receive an allocation for work to be undertaken in 2014. The Council have not had a specific response in relation to the Esker Project from the NTA. It is expected that this matter will be further considered in the context of an NTA supported Lucan Access Study being undertaken in 2014, which will identify local transport measures that may be subject to future investment.
