COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 22, 2014
MOTION NO. 9
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
"That this Committee welcomes the decision of the Minister for Children and her Department to fund the provision of a Playspace Project at Hermitage Park, Lucan, noting that there are many young children living in surrounding estates, including Mount Andrew, Liffey Valley Park, Larkfield, Hermitage Park and Ballyowen Park, and requests the Manager to provide an updated Report on the implementation of this project."
REPORT:
The consultation process for the 2014 Play Space programme involves initial scoping with key players in each area including the Elected Members, Community Groups, etc. These scoping exercises often lead to more than one meeting before the full consultation meeting. After the issues relating to the proposed sites have been identified it is then possible to proceed to a full public consultation meeting and with the knowledge of what is possible in each area. The Elected Members are also invited to the full public meetings. In the Lucan Area Committee Area consultation has taken place in relation to the Woodfarm Acres location. Consultation is currently being organised for Griffeen Avenue.
A Play Space is also planned for Hermitage Park and this has been partly funded through the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. The consultation process is planned to start in the week beginning the 21st April 2014. When the consultation exercise has been successfully completed a tender will be organised for the construction of the facility. It is anticipated that consultation, tendering and completion of construction will lead to the opening of the play space in Hermitage Park in August 2014.
