MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"That this Committee welcomes the Manager's decision to provide a Regional Playground in Lucan Demesne in 2016, as part of the Five Year Play Space Programme, and recommends to the Manager that the Parks Department liaises with Fingal County Council, which has begun a major programme of development in St. Catherine's Park, so that the facilities provided by the Council in Lucan Demesne complement the facilities provided by Fingal County Council in St. Catherine's Park."

REPORT:

Whilst a Regional Play Space in Lucan Demesne has been included in the Five Year Play Space programme it is now considered that the facility currently under construction by Fingal County Council in St Catherine's Park will also provide for play provision for those visitors to Lucan Demesne.  In essence the park lands at St Catherine's park under the control of Fingal County Council, those in the adjoining lands under the control of Kildare County Council and those at Lucan Demesne under the control of South Dublin County Council are part of the wider Liffey Valley lands and should be considered as one park providing complementary facilities to residents and visitors that should not be duplicated by each Council if they would be located within proximity to each other.

It may be that a different but complementary focus on play provision will be provided in Lucan Demesne when the proposal comes to be examined in detail.
