MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Monday, April 28, 2014

QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine

To ask that the Manager provide a report on Business premises situated along the Belgard Road- to include empty units and those remaining open for trade/manufacture. Is there a masterplan on rejuvenating the area that is a main artery approaching Tallaght?

REPLY:

The Council is carrying out a range of policies to support economic development in the County. It is the intention of the Council to undertake an 'Expo' later in 2014 which will highlight key development sites, locations along the Belgard road would be envisaged to form part of this event. However at present, the South Dublin Chamber, is carrying out an economic profiling survey of the County. This project is being supported by the Council who will make direct use of the results to assist in targeting both support and policy. With respect to the Belgard road and its future development the key basis for directing this is the Tallaght Local area plan which sets out a clear vision for the broader Tallaght area and in detail for local areas within. This includes the Belgard road area which is viewed as a key development area within the plan. This local area plan which was extended by the Members is complemented by the policies and objectives contained in the County Development plan, the County Economic Strategy and the Jobs Strategy for South Dublin County which set out policies for promoting the redevelopment and the generation of employment of existing well located enterprise lands, such as the Belgard road.
