Monday, April 28, 2014

QUESTION NO.  7

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

To ask the Manager if there are any plans to avail of the funding announced for South Dublin County in the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme in the area under the remit of this Committee, and to make a statement on the matter?

REPLY:

During December 2013 the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht launched a new fund of €5 million - the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme- for the repair and conservation of protected structures.  This fund will support a significant number of projects on protected buildings across the country, and will generate employment in the conservation and construction industries and specialist trades.

South Dublin County Council was allocated €123,000 under the new grant scheme which was advertised through a press release, Councils website and social media.  Owners of Protected Structures were also sent details of the grant scheme.  The BHJL Scheme 2014 was open for applications in December 2013 and the closing date for applications was the 14th February 2014.  The Council's Architectural Conservation Officer who has responsibility for administering the BHJL Scheme assessed all 22 applications received and submitted 17 applications for formal approval to the DAHG ensuring the full allocation was used. The selection was based on valid applications and a scheme of priorities with regard to the type of works being proposed as per the criteria set out by the DAHG.

Provisional Approval was announced on the 25th March 2014 and all 17 applications submitted by SDCC for formal approval to the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht were approved by Minister Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Provisional approval under the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014 has been allocated to the following successful applicants:
