MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor C. Jones

"To ask the Manager where complaints can be directed from the residents of Lucan and Palmerston with regard to the Fluoridation of drinking water in the case that the residents are now expected to pay for the service to Bord Uisce."

REPLY:

In Ireland, the addition of Fluoride to drinking water takes place at water treatment plants as required under The Health Act (Fluoridation of Water Supplies) 1960 and the Fluoridation of Water Supplies Regulations 2007.

A motion seeking an independent review of Water Fluoridation was passed by South Dublin County Council in September 2012 to which the Minister for Health in 2012 replied, stating that the Minister did "not consider it necessary to commission another review".

SDCC Water Services section would suggest that residents should forward complaints and observations with regard to the Fluoridation of drinking water to the Department of Health and Children.
