MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

That South Dublin County Council notes:

·         That this April marks the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Cumann na mBan which took place on the 2nd April 1914 in Wynns Hotel, Dublin

·         That the women of Cumann na mBan played a significant role in the struggle for national liberation

·         That the role of women in Irish history is too often overlooked

Accordingly, this Council calls for:

·       SDCC to mark the centenary of the foundation of Cumann na mBan in a manner that is educational, inclusive and encapsulates the historical significance of the women involved down through the century

REPORT:

South Dublin Library Services have organised a lecture by Liz Gillis on 22nd May at 7pm, titled 'Revolutionary Women: the role of Cumann na mBan in the Irish Revolution'. All  members of the public are welcome to attend
