QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"To ask the Manager what is the latest position with regard to the signage strategy for the villages specifically Rathfarnham?"

REPLY:

The County Signage Strategy arises from the Council's commitment to support local businesses through increasing footfall and resulting economic activity in the county's villages and towns. The project has been successfully tendered and design consultant FWD Ltd have been appointed and are now commencing work.  The project will include –

• The design of welcome signage to each of the 9 villages
• A way finding strategy for each village
• The design of fingerpost signs and map panels for walking, cycling and heritage routes
• The design of heritage plaques

The design and strategy phase of the project is scheduled for completion in September 2014. A pilot project will then be implemented in the centre of Tallaght to evaluate and if necessary modify the design.  The signage programme overall will be rolled out across the 9 villages in the coming years to a programme to be agreed and funded as part of budgetary decision from 2015 onwards.
