QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Manager for a detailed update on the timeframe for works to reinstate and install new fencing along the boundaries to sites at Mount Bellew Way and Griffeen Avenue respectively?"

REPLY:

The fence along the boundary of the Council's lands adjacent to Lucan  Educate Together N.S. at Mount Bellew Way, Lucan has been repaired.

With regard to the boundary along Griffeen Avenue  north of the Lucan East Educate Together N.S. , the Councillor will be aware that the major part of the strip of land in question is in private ownership. The Council has been in discussions with representatives of the Castlethorn Group who own the land with a view to arranging for a clean up of the area  and the provision of new fencing along the boundary with Griffeen Avenue, either by Castlethorn on their land and the council on ours-- or, more logically, on a shared basis ---with the council clearing the whole site and rendering it maintainable and Castlethorne providing the fencing along the full perimetre. Their final agreement on this arrangement is still awaited.

The strip of land in question adjoins a large tract of land already in the ownership of the Council and the latest suggestion from Castlethorn, which is still not finalised, is the possible transfer of their land to the Council for a nominal consideration after which the Council would be responsible for the fencing and maintenance of the whole area.

A response is awaited from Castlethorn at present.
