MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, March 24, 2014

MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor C. King

"That this Committee calls on the Manager to inspect Trees at No's 90/91 Killinarden Estate and 95 Killinarden Estate. Residents at these locations are fearful of the stability of the Trees as a result of their size and age and the very close proximity to the houses concerned. There is also a concern that the roots are damaging the footpaths and a shore at No 90. That these trees be removed as requested by the concerned residents".

REPORT:

The trees at 90/91 and 95 Killinarden Estate have recently been inspected by the Public Realm section. The Council has also carried out pruning and a tree removal works in this area in recent weeks. The trees referred to are mature Norway Maples ( Acer platanoides) which were found to be in a reasonably good condition.  However, they have grown quite large in relation to the adjoining houses and although they appear to be structurally sound, they may be the cause of some concern to local residents, particuilarly during periods of stormy weather. Arrangements will therefore, be made to remove the trees at this location as part of the 2014 Tree Works Programme for the area.
