COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE
Wednesday, March 19, 2014
MOTION NO. 17
MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan
That this Committee agrees to install a number of dog fouling signs in Monastery Gate.
REPORT:
Dog fouling is an ongoing problem in many areas. It has been clearly demonstrated that the presence of signs do not change the behaviour of dog owners who do not clean up after their dogs. The Council strongly promotes the Green Dog Walkers programme which is an initiative in the fight against dog litter. It is a community led programme and supported by South Dublin County Council. The programme is a positive, friendly way to change attitudes about dog fouling.
Launched in April 2013, there 318 Pledge forms were completed in 2013 and there were 4 Campaign days in 2013.
It is planned to highlight Green Dog walking during Eco Week and plan further campaign days.
