MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That this Committee agrees to put the funds for a playground in Knockmitten towards an Astro Park at Knockmitten Community Garden / Community Centre and in conjunction with the Knockmitten community centre

REPORT:

Along with a number of other places around the County, a Playspace has been proposed for the area adjacent to Knockmitten Community Centre. The Playspace proposed will be designed to suit young children, and will be funded by the Council's Environmental Services Department. As with every one of the proposals, the local community will be consulted in advance of the construction of the Playspace. It is not appropriate to anticipate the views of the community in advance of the consultation process.

The proposal to construct an Astro Park adjacent to the Community Centre can be examined in the meanwhile, and the necessary arrangements will be made to meet with the parties involved. There is usually a considerable financial cost involved in the construction of an all- weather playing facility, and while funds are scarce, the options can be discussed amongst the parties concerned.
