MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"That this Committee notes that some residents of Adamstown have complained that they are experiencing difficulties in accessing parking spaces assigned to their dwellings around school opening and closing times, and requests the Manager to provide a Report setting out those streets/locations in Adamstown where parking spaces are private, ie owned by /allocated to householders, and those streets /locations which are public roads and hence available to any person for parking, providing obstruction is not being caused."

REPORT:

Mobility Management Plans were put in place for each of the schools in Adamstown during the planning application process. The purpose of these plans was to maximise the opportunity for safe cycle, pedestrian and public transport access to and from all schools.

Adamstown Community College, St. John the Evangelist N.S, Adamstown Educate Together N.S between them, have a total of 90 shared drop-off spaces. These are located as follows;

Esker Educate Together N.S (Temporary School) utilises drop- off space at Adamstown Park.

Adamstown Community College, in their in house developed Mobility Management Plan undertook to appoint a school mobility officer whose role was to develop, implement, monitor and review the school travel plan.

Within local roads in Adamstown on street parking is mainly communal i.e. non-designated.   As has been the case in the past the Planning Department will continue to liaise with the schools on mobility issues. Where schools are encountering mobility issues such as parking in designated residential areas, staff from the Adamstown Team will liaise directly with the schools in the context of their mobility management plans to help address the problem. The team will contact the schools directly in order to address this issue.
