MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

QUESTION NO. 14

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Manager, further to the previous request discussed by this Committee, to arrange a meeting between this Committee, the Council Environmental Services Dept and the owners/manager of commercial premises located at the Ballyowen Castle local centre?"

REPLY:

A meeting was convened in the Autumn of 20l3 with the Manager of Super Value , Ballyowen Shopping Centre in relation to the ongoing problems of illegal dumping in the vicinity of the bring banks.   Following on that meeting the bring banks were re-positioned so as to limit / reduce the opportunity for illegal/covert dumping. The area is monitored by CCTV  and while the Council has, in the past, secured evidence to prosecute under th Litter Pollution Act,   the quality of footage from CCTV in recent months has not been sufficient to pursue further prosecution. The Council's enviornmental Awareness Section has  recently been in contact with local businesses and will convene a meeting with the business and the local Elected Members to identify a strategy for litter management in the general vicintiy.

The  bring bank area is served twice weekly by the Council's Public Realm staff.
