QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Manager for a further detailed update on the examination of sites and building options for a possible new multi-purpose community centre for the Lucan/Adamstown area?"

REPLY:

At the January 2014 Lucan ACM,  a presentation outlining the Lucan Initiative and its findings was presented to the Members. The conclusions were as follows:

1. Meet with the School Principals and examine usage, access and difficulties in making their facilities available to the community;

2. Convene a meeting with the local media (Newsletter, Gazette, Library, Village Initiative and Liffey Sound) to examine how information can be captured updated and made available to the Community of Lucan

3. Continue to foster our relationship with schools and examine community involvement and integration;

4. Develop new ways of engaging parents and adults in becoming involved in community activities through sports clubs and other organisations;

5. Meet with the Economic Development Department, the Public Realm Department and the Architectural Services Department and examine land availability and what options (both short-term and long-term) are open to address the deficit in facilities in consultation with the community and the Elected Members in the greater Lucan area.

6. Draft a realistic plan, costed and timetabled, to meet the community recreation space needs of the people of Lucan and surrounds. 

Items 1, 3 and 4 are already underway. Item 2  - meeting the media to see how best to capture information and make it available to the community - is something that will be addressed as soon as items 1,3 and 4 have been completed. When that stage is reached, we can then meet with the various departments and see what options are open to us. This will take some time and will involve several different departments. Land availability, the best usage and costs will need to be determined before we can arrive at a set of options, but the process is underway.
