MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

MOTION NO. 28

MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"That this Area Committee, notes the 'Interim Mobility Management Plan' submitted as part of the planning application (recently granted permission) for a permanent extension to Scoil Mhuire Girls NS at Old Lucan Road; and particularly notes the findings that at least 65% of trips to the school are from areas south of the N4; and that 56% of pupils indicated that they travel to school in a car; and requests the Manager and the National Transport Authority to proactively support measures to greatly improve the levels of travel to school by sustainable modes, in particular for trips between both sides of the N4; including, if feasible, through the provision of a supervised school bus service."

REPORT:

The issue of mobility in relation to schools in the Lucan area was raised by SDCC at a recent meeting with the NTA particularly in relation to the NTA funded  N4 Celbridge Road junction to Palmerstown Cycle Scheme. This scheme will consider junction access from both sides of the N4 corridor on existing infrastructure. A Consultants brief is at an advanced stage of preparation for this scheme and it is expected to go to Tender very soon for preliminary design and statutory process, subject to NTA approval.  Members will be kept informed of progress.
