COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)
Monday, February 24, 2014
MOTION NO. 6
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
Cathaoirleachs Business
That this Committee calls on the Manager to carry out a survey of the senior citizen housing clusters in the Tallaght area to ensure that the pedestrian access to the housing is in a safe condition and to ensure that public lighting is fully operational.
REPORT:
Public lighting, where provided, on public roads and public laneways is maintained by the Roads and Water Services Department. A schedule of night time operational inspections is in place to insure that each of the Council's 30,000 lights are inspected on a fortnightly basis. Any faults are then attended to by the Council's public lighting maintenance contractor for attendance and repair within 14 working days. A small portion of repairs require excavation and may take longer to resolve. Enquiries regarding lighting faults are welcomed by the Council and the status of any fault can be confirmed to the caller or added to the list of current faults if not already known. This procedure covers both isolated and grouped senior citizen areas across the Tallaght area and the County where street lighting is provided. In private areas management companies should be consulted regarding lighting faults.
