MOTION NO.6
MOTION: Councillor C. King
"That this Committee calls on the Manager to examine in consultation with local residents the possibility of developing allotments on the Lands at Knockmore Avenue adjacent to the lands that are subject to a part 8 Housing proposal where the old nuns House once stood, this a Community proposal that already has some support from local residents in Knockmore".
REPORT:
A meeting took place some months ago with a local group that was interested in developing a community garden in the Knockmore Area. Two sites were examined and a suggestion was also put forward by the group in relation to the development of a plot on a local open space.
The ownership of both sites was examined in relation to their suitability for the development of a community garden project. Both sites would require substantial investment in moving unusable material off site and in any case it would appear that both are earmarked for future development by the Council.
The Council was in contact with the group some weeks ago and will be following up on this project in the next month.
