MOTION NO. 15

MOTION: Councillor G. Kenny

That this Council along with civic bodies in South West Clondalkin begin a community clean up of the section of the Green Cycle Route that starts from the 10th Lough to end of Kilcronin Estate. Plastic bags are other material have lodged themselves in the fence that is adjacent to the canal. With a little community involvement we can try and keep the canal and the pathway clean for all its users.

REPORT:

The post and sheep wire fence which runs adjacent to the Canal between the 10th Lock and Kilcronan Estate was installed to provide protection to the hedge which was planted on the top of the berm as part of the towpath upgrade works.  With the recent stormy weather a lot of loose litter has been blown across the Canal Bank open space and become trapped in the fence.  Contact will be made with the adjacent landowner in relation to a joint cleanup of the area.  In the meantime if there are any Community Groups that would like to become involved they should be advised to contact the Public Realm Section of the Environment Department for further details.
