MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor A.M. Dermody

"That the Manager explain why it is, despite requests by Residents from Ballyroan Crescent through Fixmystreet and by me through Membersnet, that the litter bins in the Ballyroan area are still not collected.   These bins have not been emptied since November and the situation is a health hazard.  The bins stretching from Ballyroan Crescent down to the shops at Rosemount are in the direct path of the schools and are essential for the proper upkeep of the area.  The fact that these bins are not being emptied puts additional pressure on the voluntary contribution given by the Residents Association, a contribution that is generally well received by this Council and essential if the area is to be maintained to a high level.  The area is now at risk of becoming a litter black spot through no fault of resident but through the neglect of this Council.  I phoned a senior member of the team last Thursday and was lead to believe that the matter would be sorted but nothing has been done in the intervening time.   Why have multiple requests gone without action?  Could there be an IR issue that members are not being informed about?"

REPORT:

There are three litter bins in the vicinity of Ballyroan Crescent and the walkway to the shops/pedestrian crossing at Ballyroan Road. At the end of last year the bin located at the entrance to the walkway Ballyroan Crescent  required a new internal liner to be installed and as a result could not be serviced on a regular basis.  The two bins on the Ballyroan Road have been serviced on a regular basis as part of the normal litter bin route schedule for the area. An order for the supply of new bin liners was placed at the start of this year by the Public Realm section and there is normally a 4-6 week delivery period on these items from the Council's suppliers. A consignment of  liners has now been delivered and a new liner was installed in the bin at Ballyroan Crescent on the 6/2/14. This bin has now been emptied and the three bins at this location will be serviced regularly in the future as part of the normal litter bin route for the Rathfarnham area.
